A year ago at Mountain Gardens, Joe was busy preparing for the guests who were to come on our joint walk and talk. Luckily Joe had a well stocked library and I therefore spent time reading in a local flora….not much was in flower this late in the season: 1. Floral List of Black and Craggy Mountains North Carolina (the area of NC in which Mountain Gardens is located in the Southern Appalachians and part of the Blue Ridge Mountains) including the highest mountains in the Eastern US:
Tradescantia subaspera is still on my list of edibles I’d love to grow
3 species of waterleaf (Hydrophyllum) are found here
Allium canadense, ramps (Alllium tricoccum), Allium cerunuum (nodding onion) and weedy Allium vineale are the local onions
Both woodland spring beauties (Claytonia) are found in this area
One year ago, it was a pleasure to spend some time touring Joe Hollis’ Mountain Gardens with these three guys who’d come all the way from NE Ohio and Columbus Ohio (an 8-9 hour drive).
